Due to COVID-19, many artists in the theater scene were unable to perform their presentations to the public in a conventional way due to mandatory social isolation as a form of protection against the virus and the pandemic, generating a drop in the creative economy, considered a non-essential activity, causing loss of work and thus highlighting financial vulnerability, anguish, worry, stress, frustration and creative block. In this way, I bring reports of how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the artistic process of independent theater artists in Cuiabá, describing and comparing the financial and survival difficulties imposed by the lockdown decree and what were the possibilities of perhaps remaining active in the market or adapting to online work or completely changing areas in search of its livelihood.
