Resumo: "Hobi-like virus" or atypical pestivirus has been detected in animals infected naturamente on three continents, but the clinical disease associated with infection Hobi-like virus has been little studied. In Brazil, the virus was associated with bovine abortion and respiratory lesions in Italy. In this paper we report the epidemiological, clinical, pathological, molecular and economics of an outbreak of infection Hobi-like pestivirus in calves with diarrhea in a property located in the city of Cuiabá / MT in 2010. During the outbreak killed 20 calves on the property, which was possible to follow three animals. The first calf was referred to the Veterinary Hospital of UFMT for necropsy. Two other calves (2:03) were monitored in HOVET / UFMTe were necropsied after death. Regarding the clinical history, the first calf showed signs of apathy, dehydration and diarrhea yellow for 3 days and at necropsy yellowish contents in the intestine, and peritonitis omphalophlebitis. 2:03 calves showed diffuse alopecia on the back, epidermal hyperkeratosis, ulcers and erosions covered with plates of fibrin. Microscopic examination of the affected tissues showed omphalophlebitis and suppurative peritonitis in 1 Calf and extensive areas of necrosis (ulcers and erosions) by various organs of calves 2:03. For virological diagnosis were sampled for blood and lymphoid organs of calves 2 and 3, which were processed and subjected to RT-PCR for BVDV. Products of amplification of the 5 'untranslated region and viral nucleoprotease obtained were purified and sequenced. Phylogenetic analyzes of the sequences now denonimada sample LPV-WR/BR11 allowed their classification in the group of atypical pestivirus. Immunohistochemistry for BVDV revealed positive staining for viral protein mainly in epithelial cells of the skin, oral cavity and the organs of the digestive system. We estimated a direct cost of the disease in the herd of R $ 22,500.00. The data presented demonstrate that this characterization Hobi-like viruses can cause calf mortality for acute gastroenteritis associated dermatitis in suckling calves.
