This study aims to highlight the sung prayer as a usual practice in the community, which in addition to the demonstration of faith, constitutes a link between the residents of the Chumbo community, in the municipality of Poconé - MT and the dimension of the sacred, in a way to preserve the history, culture and memory of the quilombola people. It is the history of ordinary people (CERTEAU, 1998) that deserves to be told, of people whose history is marked by the deprivation of access to formal education, but who have in Popular Education the possibility of maintaining their histories, cultures and memories, dimensions permeated by a creative and revolutionary character, non-institutionalist that are configured as practices and experiences mediated by creative, frontier movements, in order to oppose free and collective participation. The qualitative research, with a phenomenological principle, carried out data collection through interviews and document analysis. The research highlights the prayer sung in the poetics of the voice, in the perspective of the synthesis of several elements, such as faith, devotion, belief and spirituality whose complexity links the social actors belonging to the community of Chumbo to a story, which they tried to unlink it ritualizes and re-updates the traditions that keep the ancestral word for being the holder of a mysterious power, which is why it is permeated with meanings that allow the organization, expression and effective participation of social actors in situations related to day-to-day life. in the community.
