Resumo: | The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the role of the discursive agent José Ramos Tinhorão within the context of the field of symbolic constitution and legitimation of urban popular music in Brazil. Additionally, this study seeks to measure the impact of his positions in the political and cultural arena, as well as to capture the dynamics of discursive disputes within this field and the structure of feelings amalgamated in the symbolic ideology expressed by its agents. By analyzing the concept of popular music proposed by Tinhorão in his pioneering and foundational book Música Popular: Um Tema em Debate (1966), along with an investigation of the conceptual analysis method that supported his arguments in defense of “authentic” and national popular music—such as samba and choro—this study aims to elucidate the guiding principles of his theoretical and political stances in the debates in which he participated. Finally, it intends to present the representative elements of revolutionary Brazilianness expressed in the aforementioned work, which exemplifies in a unifying manner such a structure of feelings. |
