Resumo: This work took as its object of study the removal of teachers from the state network, who work in the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Rio Cuiabá (RMVRC), for the treatment of depressive disorders. The objective of this research is: To investigate working conditions and illness among teachers in the State, focusing on absences from work for the treatment of depressive disorders among teachers in the state education network in Mato Grosso. The following assumptions were raised: the existence of an increase in the number of teachers on leave due to depressive disorders in Mato Grosso, following what was observed by studies in Brazil; and that the intensification and overload of work among the teachers, linked to the demand for performance and result, would be some of the contributory causes for the illness of these workers. To achieve the objective, the following were carried out: a bibliographical survey of the studies produced on the working condition and illness of teachers, in addition to the survey of official data, after authorization granted by the Secretary of State and Education, on the number of medical licenses granted by it in the period delimited by their research and analysis; and after requesting and granting approval by the Research Ethics Committee, semi-structured interviews were carried out with a sample of teachers in order to understand their feelings in relation to carrying out their work. With the aforementioned actions, it was observed that the transformations resulting from the pandemic period, such as the imposition of isolation, the loss of relatives and close people and the fear of being infected, further aggravated the psychic suffering already experienced by the teachers.
