Resumo: This research at the master's level is linked to the research line “Education, Culture and Society”, from the Postgraduate Program in Education of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul – campus of Campo Grande/MS. The research, qualitative in nature, inspired by the ethnographic perspective seeks to contribute to reflection on the early childhood educational physical environment, starting from the following inquiry: early childhood educational physical environment is structured to foster children's autonomy and sociability? The Critical Theory of Society will subsidize the theoretical foundation of the work in progress, specifically the studies of the thinker Walter Benjamin as a key theoretical interlocutor. In this study, we will present reflections on the norms of the physical environment destined for early childhood education, evidencing the importance and influence of its structure and functionality for the integral development of children. To this end, research was carried out in several documents (Law, Guidelines and Subsidies for Credentialing and Functioning) on the childhood educational physical environment. As the object of study, photographic records of the childhood educational physical environment of two schools of Early Childhood Education in the city of Campo Grande were made. The research also included data collection, records of visits to the field delimited for the study, as well as the collection/generation of data regarding the institutions surveyed. We wait that this study can contribute to the advancement of knowledge about the potential of the physical environment of early childhood education institutions in the city of Campo Grande/MS, in terms of the cultural formation of children and trainers. It is from this perspective that we envision the learning and integral development of children. Recognizing the requirements of kids and those who work with them is affirmed by the safety and adequacy of the environment capable of ensuring quality pedagogical work based on the integral development of children, which helps to provide a high-quality early childhood education.
