Resumo: |
This research seeks to understand the entry process of students who enter postgraduate courses (master's and/or doctorate) through racial quotas, primarily who have gone through the process of heteroidentification by bank, which occurs in some institutions. Even after a few years of the Quota Law, it is still not widely accepted, and when it comes to hetero-identification by bank, the issue becomes a little more controversial. The “court of races” (Folha de São Paulo, 2004) works as an instrument to guarantee rights and is complementary to self-declaration of color, however, when starting from an exclusively phenotypic criterion, it causes some disagreements, mainly because of the miscegenation that occurred in the country. Currently, there are many public policies to promote equity and social justice and racial quotas fit as temporary affirmative actions. The research participants were able to share their experiences in the interviews carried out, about their perceptions as black and quota students, through oral history and narratives, in the light of analysis of Cultural Studies. The work consists of a qualitative research and the method used to recruit respondents was the “Virtual Snow Ball” (COSTA, 2018). Various testimonies were collected, but they converge in many points, corroborating the intersectional thinking. The results point to reflect the role of the academy as a locus of a process of construction of racial identity and that, as important as the stalls are, the process must focus on the candidate and the movements and experiences that led him there, therefore, banking becomes a formality and one more step in this process that will guarantee rights and access to the target audience.
