Burning is a frequent practice for renewing pastures and in urban areas it is used to clear the land, with the highest incidence occurring in the dry period related to the indices of climatic elements (precipitation, temperature and relative humidity of the air) that potentiate the propagation of fire in dense undergrowth, composed of grasses and herbs. Thus, the objective of the research was to analyze the spatial and temporal dynamics of the episodes of burnings and fires in the city of Campo Grande - MS in the period 2000-2020. An extension project was developed with the theme of burning and critical environmental education actions at the Antônio José Paniago Municipal School, located in the Bandeira urban region, a region that presented a high incidence of hot spots in the period analyzed from 2000 to 2020. hypothetical-deductive method, a bibliographic survey was carried out about burnings, fire and hot spots, environmental education, dynamic teaching strategies, environmental perception, legislation regarding the use of fire; survey of secondary data on the number of hot spots, climate data, survey of notifications for non-cleaning of lots in the city of Campo Grande. The results obtained through the mapping of hot spots show the relationship between the occurrence of fires, climatic variables, and the rate of urbanization. Added to this is the importance of the activities carried out at the school, as they made it possible to sharpen the students' perception of the problem of fires in their place of living, awakening greater socio-environmental responsibility, with a view to preventing fires in the urban area of the municipality of Campo Large - MS.
