Resumo: |
In Brazil, the eradication of modern slavery faces challenges that go beyond socio-economic and political issues, including cultural and structural aspects. The persistence of slave labour and human trafficking represents a serious violation of human rights and hinders the construction of a more just and equitable society, being an obstacle to sustainable development. In this way, the research problem reflects on the following question: What are the main obstacles faced by Brazil in eradicating modern slavery and how do these challenges impact on the realisation of sustainable development in the country? The general objective of the research is to analyse the main obstacles faced by Brazil in the eradication of modern slavery, identifying how these challenges impact the implementation of sustainable development in the country. The specific objectives of the research are: to investigate the fight against labour exploitation by elucidating the social and legal sphere of decent working conditions; to examine sustainable development and contemporary forms of slavery; and, finally, to seek to identify the obstacles presented by modern slavery in the Brazilian context in relation to the promotion of sustainable development, which will be addressed in each chapter of the development of this research. It concludes that modern-day slavery is not limited to human rights, but also addresses economic and social injustices, inequalities and discrimination present in various social structures. A comprehensive approach that considers all these facets of social injustice is crucial to eradicating modern slavery. To achieve its aims, this research adopted a methodological approach that integrated a bibliographical and documentary review, using national and international sources. It also used qualitative data analyses with a deductive method to understand the interactions between social, economic and environmental issues related to the topic. |
