Resumo: The Brazil throughout its history went intense changes in the territorialdivision outlined by studies of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, with the growth of urban population. Late presence of government studies focused on the implementation of public policies and the lack of data on the subject, reinforce the need for academic research to approach the issue of rurality in their regional specificities contemplating progressive socioeconomic changes that involve the universe rural and their urbanization processes. Bring the rurality asthe object of research, present its changes and particularities, is important for providing a discussion of the hegemony of cities as a place of status and value by bringing representational elements of rural and urban and showing that both has good points and bad often not made explicit. For the analysis of group inserts in rural areas, were surveyed three rural villages in the rural area of the municipality of Conselheiro Lafaiete/MG: Mato Dentro; Vila Domingos and Caeté. To represent the urban area, the chosen city was São Brás do Suaçuí/MG. The firststudy of this work brings the description of the achievement of the ruralcommunity census of the three villages that provide accurate information about their sociodemographic characteristics. These data were important for the study relations between the villages and those in the city of São Brás do Suaçuí/MG. The survey also analyze representational elements of rural and urban, based on the theory of Social Representations (Bonomo & Souza, 2010; Deschamps & Moliner, 2009; Jodelet, 2009; Moscovici, 2004; Sa, 1998; Souza Filho, 1996; Vala, 2004) and the relationship between the spaces and groups through the theory of Social Identity of Tajfel (1982, 1983a, 1983b), mainly through the story of young people while conducting focus groups (Study 2).
