Resumo: Create software comprehends complex activities full of uncertainness. It usually depends on the implicit knowledge of software engineers. Many times, the know-how and the know-why acquired through each project remain only in personal mental models defined by each engineer. So, it is important to registry and to use the information obtained through technical and management activities to create knowledge about both products and software projects. Either to support the learning and the improvement development process. This paper presents practices and difficulties in information management during the software development process based on the CMM (Capability Maturity Model) level 2. The strategy used was a close research and descriptive case study. First it was made a documental analysis in order to map the relationship between information management and the software development process based on the CMM level 2. Afterwards a questionary was given in order to identify the practices and difficulties in applying the CMM level 2 policies. The research found out that software managers practice information management when they execute the key process areas policies approved by the CMM level 2. It was also found out that socialization and externalization are the two most used ways of knowledge dissemination. At last the paper offers recommendations about managers behavior and about the practices used to create knowledge. It offers either suggestions for further studies.
