Resumo: The dictionary is considered the treasure of a language, and much more than a simple list of words, can be an important instrumentto teach and learn the mother language and a foreign language. The education of deaf students has been discussed, especially since the inclusive school was proposed by the current legislation in Brazil. Therefore, we identified like very important the training and/or the development of teachers (in this case we will focus specifically on Portuguese teachers). So they will not only receive deaf people in their classrooms, butoffer to this minority an equal knowledge in comparison to theirlistenerscolleagues. The difficulties many teachers face teaching Portuguese for deaf students in classes that listeners are the majority, happens, in general, because of the lack of methods and the right didatics instruments. Many elements make us to affirm that the good use of dictionaries in classroom with deaf students contributes greatly to the development of lexical competence in Portuguese. Assuming that there is a large gap in the quantity and quality of specifics educational materials for deafs education in regular schools in Brazil, the central objective of this work is to show the importance of using the dictionaries (Portugueses and Librass dictionaries) as a way to encouragethe promotion of the teaching Portuguese to the deaf people. As methodology, we developed some teaching procedures, showing how dictionaries can help the deaf understand some aspects of Portuguese language normally perceived by hearing. It was selected the Brazilian dictionaries: Dicionário Houaiss da língua portuguesa, de 2009; Dicionário Aurélio da Língua Portuguesa, de 2010, Dicionário Caudas Aulete, de 2012 e Dicionário enciclopédico ilustrado trilíngue da língua de sinais brasileira, 2001. Anyway, propose methodologies that go beyond a textbook, such as the use of dictionaries in circulation, make possible to deaf students a real access to Portuguese language, so important in the social areas in which they are inserted.
