Resumo: | It is important to evaluate the functional capacity of patients with cardiovascular disease to identify the implications of health status in their lives. The Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) is a simple questionnaire consisting of 12 items that assess functional capacity. This instrument has wide applicability and utility in research and clinical practice, but is in English. Therefore, the aim of this study was to translate and to develop a cross-cultural adaptation of the Duke Activity Status Index (DASI)for the Portuguese-Brazil, verify if its psychometric properties are adequate to assess functional capacity of the patients with cardiovascular diseases and to record the time required for the application of this questionnaire. The questionnaire was translated, back-translated and evaluated by a multidisciplinary committee of experts for the verification of semantic, idiomatic and conceptual equivalences. The pre-test version was assessed in a sample of 30 subjects with cardiovascular disease to investigate the understanding and pertinence of the items. The psychometric properties and the time for the application were registered in others 67 subjects. The intraclass correlation coefficient founded for the test-retest reliability was 0.87 and for interrater reability 0.84. The Brazilian version had a Cronbach's of 0.93 for internal consistency. The concurrent validity was verified by a significant and positive correlation between DASI score and VO2máx (r=0.51, p<0.001) and METmáx (r=0.50, p<0.01) achieved during exercise test according to Bruce protocol. There were extracted two factors from factor analysis accounting for 53.81% of total variance, with factor 1 accounting for 39.99% of the variance. The time necessary for the application of the questionnaire varied between one and three and a half minutes. Therefore, the Brazilian version of the Duke Activity Status Index is valid, reliable, fast and easy to administrate, being a useful tool to assess functional capacity of patients with cardiovascular diseases. |
