Resumo: Surubim Pseudoplatystoma corruscans is a species of great ecological and economic importance in Brazil. The fishing of these animals is becoming increasingly scarce, driving the breeding of them in captivity. But breeding is based on the production of hybrids from crossing this species with Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum. In an attempt to identify the species and hybrids, morphological characteristics have been used. However, such characters have limited value, because the hybrids have an intermediate appearance between the parental species and are difficult to identify the offspring or in processed products. The biological and husbandry of this hybrid and its impact on native fauna and cultivated groups are still unknown, necessitating the development of effective molecular tools for identification. Thus, samples were collected from 128 fin and animals, 44 hybrids, 47 P. corruscans and 37 P. reticulatum. The genotyping was performed using eight microsatellite markers described by Revaldaves (2005). Statistical analysis was made in the program GenALEx6. The test designation was effective in species identification and distinction of hybrids. The results showed that the use of molecular tools may have great application in genetic studies, conservation genetics and breeding programs.
