Resumo: This work investigates piano teachers objectives, strategies, contents and repertoire for young beginners piano students, taking into account that teaching piano is established on general music education, not only on specialist approach. From this point of view, the Model C(L)A(S)P by SWANWICK (1979) was the framework used to analyze the data collected, once it is an integrated approach of the central modes of music making. The results of the investigation point that teachers have been working hardly the modes Composition C and Performance P as well as the activity Skill Acquisition (S). The mode Audition A and the activity Literature Studies (L) nevertheless have been less explored at classes. The piano methods have been used in classes but up to some limits. And the selected repertoire, considering the technical skills accomplished by the learner, usually allows freedom for introducting variations where we can see intersection between Composition and Performance.
