Resumo: This thesis has the aim of investigating the relations between the variables Individual Competencies, Organizational Modernity and Workers Satisfaction at Work. It is also aimed at the procedure of diagnosing the situation of the same variables in relation to the people who are the target of this research, which included 654 professionals from organizations of Minas Gerais, who were enrolled, at the time it was carried out, in lato-sensu post-graduation courses on Administration, offered by institutions of superior education in Belo Horizonte (MG). Bearing in mind these objectives, a quantitative research was performed, using the questionnaire as a basic instrument of data collecting, which was submitted to statistical treatment through descriptive and multivariate analysis techniques. As theoretical reference, one should emphasize the utilization of the Organizational Modernity Estimate Approach, proposed by EBOLI (1996), of the Assignments Basic Dimensions Model, worked out by HACKMAN & OLDHAM (1975) and of the review of the English and French Approaches on the Competence, which constitutes a theoretical mark to identify the individual competencies that are mostly required from the workers, as responses to the new demands from the current business environment. As a result of this research, the scales proposed for measuring the variables concerning this study were validated. At the same time, the hypotheses which guided the accomplishment of the mentioned study were verified, which made possible the verification of the existence of positive and linear relations between the variables: Required Individual Competencies and Organizational Modernity; Required Individual Competencies and Workers Satisfaction at Work; Organizational Modernity and Workers Satisfaction at Work, as well as the existence of a dependence relation between Organizational Modernity (independent variable) and Workers Satisfaction at Work (dependent variable). Likewise, the hypothesized model displayed an adjustment that can be characterized as very good. As to the diagnosis of the situation of the variables concerning this study, it is important to emphasize the verification of differentiated and heterogeneous realities, on which one can perceive organizations in different stages, concerning the required individual competencies, the degree of organizational modernity and the satisfaction level of its workers. In spite of these differences, it is widely known the incorporation, though not radically, of the investigated characteristics of modernity and satisfaction; it is important to caution, however, the aspects of modernity and the gains in terms of more satisfying jobs are followed by far greater demands to the workers.
