This master thesis project presents the results of an investigation concerning the presence of games and concrete materials in Mathematics textbooks to be used in the first educational level (named Fundamental Education). Three collections approved by the 2007 edition of the National Textbook Program (PNLD) were focused. Regarding the theoretical-methodological aspects, the research process involved the adoption of a conceptual model for games and concrete materials, a study on the proposal of these resources by some authors, the criteria adopted for the selection of works and activities that are going to be analyzed and the use of content analysis as a way to select the collections and to examine the activities proposed by them. The analysis undertaken made possible to identify the diverse aspects that involve the use of games and concrete materials in those collections and which are directly related to the Mathematics Education movement and adjacent conceptions, and to the demands from the PNLD. We gave special emphasis to the concepts that guide this type of activity in the collections studied, which may offer contributions to the Mathematics Education research field, since that this study opens the possibility a reflection on the use of games and concrete materials it the teaching of Mathematics .
