Resumo: Faceted Classification revolutionized the way of thinking and elaborating classifications. At the time when this system was conceived, in the period from 1924 to 1928, by Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan, it manifested itself as a system in facets, much more flexible than the systems existing today. In an attempt to reduce the existing gap and at the same time instigate the area to carry out further studies on the Faceted Classification, throughout this research, elements are presented that reveal the mapping of the subject in the scientific literature, using different methodological subsidies . This study analyzes the characteristics of Brazilian scientific production on Faceted Classification, identifying the following indicators: productivity of researchers and institutions, periods of greater productivity, analysis of the content of the investigated works, analysis of the incidence of keywords, research methods, application of Faceted Classification, use of Faceted Classification and trends presented in research. The mapping of scientific production covered works published between 1990 to 2019, based on consultations in the Referential Database of Journal Articles, Scopus, Library Information Science Abstracts, Web of Science, Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations and in the published annals the National Research Meeting in Information Science and the International Society for Knowledge Organization (Brazil). The methodological path included the use of combined quantitative and qualitative techniques and the final data collection took place in January 2020. A database was created in Microsoft Excel, composed of 53 studies for the empirical part, thus distributed: 16 theses and dissertations, 20 journal articles and 17 oral communication articles. The methods applied to the collected data set were the systematic literature review, bibliometrics and content analysis, which are part of the theoretical and methodological basis. The theoretical contributions of the Faceted Classification, the characteristics and structural elements of this system were also used, in addition to the theoretical bases of communication and scientific production. For the analysis and presentation of the results, graphs, tables and tables were elaborated. From the results revealed, it is noteworthy that the Graduate Program in Information Science at the Federal University of Minas Gerais is the most productive in the sample under analysis and the authors most cited in journal articles were the classics. In the sample of articles from journals and oral communication works, the National Research Meeting in Information Science stood out as to the production of articles, in comparison with journals. Among the institutions, the Federal University of Minas Gerais and the Federal University Fluminense appear with the largest scientific production of articles. The use, application and contribution of the Faceted Classification are manifested in the field of conceptual modeling, faceted systems and modeling in digital environments. As research trends, suggestions for applying this system in other domains stand out, the need for new studies that address the theoretical and methodological bases of knowledge organization, the application in new contexts, the increase in studies related to faceted systems, among other results. The elements brought by the results contributed to outline some aspects of the behavior of Brazilian scientific production on the thematic.
