Resumo: The main objective of this work was analyze how is characterized, physical and symbolically, the territorial dynamics of Movimento Quarteirão do Soul, in Belo Horizonte. In 70s, soul music proms were popular downtown, but over time, were being purged to suburbs or being replaced by other musical and cultural styles emerged in the 80s. In order to retrieve the proms of that time, a group of friends decided to create a place where lovers of soul music could get together and dance again, to revive their youth, the trendy and the friendship of 70s proms. In this context the Quarteirão do Soul was created in 2004, at Goitacazes Street. Due to conflicts with local residents and traders in 2009, the Quarteirão do Soul was relocated from Goitacazes Street to Santa Catarina Street, where it occurs until today. To implementation of this research, we chose the case study research technique with a qualitative approach, which enabled us to study densely the Quarteirão do Soul and his characteristics, focusing on the individuals involved with the Movement. In operationalization of the research we used interviews, direct observation, photographic records and documental analyses as data collection. The interviews analyses were made with the discourse analysis techniques, at a French perspective. Relative to the physical characteristics, i.e. the structural layout of the completion of the Quarteirão do Soul, we observed a clear incongruity of social groups multiterritoriality in Santa Catarina Street, due to the different interests of each group. In this confrontation, the public sphere, which should act as a mediator in the situation, operates in Quarteirão do Soul as a paradoxal and partial way, although it legitimizes the Movement, granting the license for operation, denies the subsidy required for the structural movement, besides it ignores the incongruity of the coexistence of two different spaces in the same space (the business space and cultural one). Regarding the symbolic dimension, we saw that the Quarteirão do Soul was born and exists until today in exchange for the youth recovery group that composes it. The Quarteirão do Soul stands out by the redefinition of time and space, where the living in a city from a collective memory (HALBAWCHS, 2006) changes the dynamics of a place for participants to express their identity with the Soul. The thematic articulations to critical thinking of the relationship between cultural and urban space does not happen, however, in a simple way, because [...] it is therefore reflect / experience the urban drift of contemporary body around new forms of urbanity, including those capable of denying his own city (BRITTO; JACQUES, 2009, p. 346). In this sense, cultural practices and forms can be seen [also] as tools of urban resistance.
