Resumo: The city of Conceição do Mato Dentro is located in the central region of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. There, traditional cultural events, such as Marujada, take place. This consists of a devout group of people who fulfill specific and greatly importantfunctions for celebrating the feast in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary of Conceição do Mato Dentro. As typically happens in the cultural traditions in general, the Marujada has undergone several changes over the years, some of them caused by their internal motivations, others determined by the effective participation of external agents. Currently, several external agents act or seek to interfere in these cultural manifestations, very often causing significant impact n these traditions. Given such a scenario, this research seeks to understand how a set of actions undertaken by institutions, individuals, and social groups affect the Marujada tradition. In addition, the research aims to understand how the marujeiros react to this external interference, how they notice it, whether they consider it a threat to their traditions, and which defense mechanisms they produce. Finally, in addition to being a source of reflection about the marujada, this research can also become a support for the surveyed group in the process of defending this cultural expression. And tradition.
