Resumo: This dissertation proposes to analyzing the clash and the link between time and eternity in the work of Cecilia Meireles. The proposed contemplates the publication of chronicles throughout the 1940s and the poetic works Mar absoluto e outros poemas and Retrato natural. This bifront work involves an intricate link with time, by destabilizing and amalgamating two distinct conceptions: the ephemerality of chronology and permanence of eternity. From a comparison between chronicle and poetry, we try to understand how a common use of themes is made and how this two modalities structure the temporal question. Thus, it starts from some thematic axes that mobilize the double temporal perspective: the sea, the "self", the shadow, the war, nature, the city and death. In the configuration of these themes there is no one formulation of time: it is presented as a double status and it is in the displacement between the eternal and the transient that emerges as the basic element of this poetic. In addition, it is sought to evaluate how these temporal regimes were presented in the author’s critical fortune, because, although she did not adopt an attitude of alienation, Cecilia Meireles also did not assimilate a passive belonging to her own time.
