Acesso, qualidade e uso racional de medicamentos em unidades básicas de saúde do distrito sanitário Nordeste de Belo Horizonte

Resumo: | Access to medicines is one of objectives of national Policy of Pharmaceutical Services and the knowledge of its dimensions is important to subsidize actions in health services. The authors purpose with this study was to evaluate the Pharmaceutical Services in Primary Health Care of the Northeast Health District in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 2014, concerning access, quality and rational use of medicines. A cross-sectional descriptive and epidemiological study was carried at 20 Basic Health Units (BHU) and at the warehouse, using 17 indicators of the World Health Organization. We interviewed 127 professional prescribers, 20 professionals of the pharmacies and 399 users. The availability of 15 medicines selected as high-priority in pharmacies of BHU was 98,3±3,7% at a specific time and was 42,5±13,6% and at the last 12 months. Regarding to geographic access, it was observed that 93,2% of users spent until 30 minutes from their dwelling- place to BHU. The mean number of prescribed medicines was 3,5 and was associated with patient`s age 60 years or older (p=0,00). The proportion of prescriptions with antibiotic, injectable, medicine prescribed by generic name and medicine in the essential medicine list was 17,8%; 9,8%; 94,9%; 91,4%; respectively. The attainment of criteria with appropriate storage conditions were 25% for local pharmacies and 83.3% for the warehouse. Expired drugs were not found. Finally. In the Northeast District Health in the city of Belo Horizonte people have appropriate conditions of geographical access to BHU and services of local pharmacies, but it is necessary the improvement of the availability of essential drugs, physical structure of pharmacies and qualification of human resources involved in rational use of medicines. It demonstrated the importance of the use of indicators in planning and monitoring the actions of the Pharmaceutical Services. |
