Resumo: The research seeks to understand the use of the Land Value Capture (OODC) instrument in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte (RMBH) with an analytical focus on the processes, advances, and difficulties observed around its regulation and application. For this purpose, the various formats in which the OODC has been implemented in municipalities of the RMBH have been classified, mapped and analyzed. The research methodology started with a bibliographical review on the subject followed by the analysis of similar experiences in Brazil and abroad, so that, with the use of documental research, interviews and data provided by the City Halls of Belo Horizonte, Betim, Contagem and Nova Lima, contribute to the understanding of the particularities, limits and possible advances of its local use, as well as the possible impacts caused by the choice of the compensation charging formulas, the destination of resources, monitoring and social control instruments. Thus, it was possible to have a panoramic understanding of the municipalities in which there are efforts for the effective OODC regulation, the main obstacles and the way in which different regulation patterns interfere in the search for a greater balance in the distribution of costs and benefits of urbanization, also contributing to the improvement of urban policies related to its operation.
