Resumo: The following research has the purpose to present a study regarding the participation of youths in the school through the student council and the experiences developed from this type of activity in a public school located in Contagem, Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. Looking for analyse the numbers of experiences proportionate by the actuation of youths in the student council, in school, or outside it. In the same way, also were analysed the relation between the council students, the Direction of school, the teachers and students not participants of the council. The research tries to understand the possible meaning and learning from this type of students participation. On this context, some questions were count, such as: The youth has an interest to participate the daily subjects in their schools? What are the singularities of the participatory process in school? What are the key players and what factors affect this process? It would be the student council a prime location for an effective participation of the student? What is the meaning of participation for youth involved in the student council? Experiences of participation would have some influence on the formation process of the youth? What is the relationship of student participate in contemporary social movements? With the objective of research answers for these questions we developed a Study of Case, where the principal methodological tools were participative observation, and the development of part structured interviews. The data collected were analysed based on the theses from Dayrell (2005, 2003), Sposito (1997, 2000), Abramo (1994, 2004), Abad (2004), Carrano (2000), Melucci (1997, 2001, 2004), Arroyo (2003, 2005), Dubet (2006), Bobbio (2000), Pais (2003), and others. After analyse the data we could understand that the, between other aspects, the student council is a socialized space with formative potential beyond the class room, could also became a tension that tends to boost the structures of the school through its operating mechanisms. This can became an important way of student act like your organization and function. The experiences lived by the youths in the student council show some particularities, and that its why, the participation of the youth in the school can work well with the mechanism of construction, build and improvement of youth formation.
