Resumo: This thesis proposes a study based on the spatiality of the language used by Mario Quintana. For this purpose, an analysis is made as to how poetic images determine a perception of space, which is realized not only through the perception of reality, but also by the way in which these images describe the space that represents them. The initial intention is to examine the articulation between real and imaginary spaces based on the perception of critics, the moment that this articulation becomes of specific discussion regarding Mario Quintana. However, such specificities were widely studied through the lens of understanding spacereflection in order to transpose the real to the imaginary. The possibility to reread the poetic space to beyond the representation signifies an approach, which connects to the space created through language, evincing a subtle articulation between the real and the imaginary inquintanian poetry. Therefore, the analysis of Quintanan texts allows one to perceive the creative process founded upon the reality of language, by revealing a less referenced space. The decision to study Quintana poetry, in relation to other Brazilian poets, is justified through the intensity with which the South Brazilian poet gives new meaning to different spacesthrough the construction of his imaginary perception. Consequently, Quintanas poetry provides a differentiation of the perception of the real, in other words, his work produces a clear composition into a reality immersed in memories that are distinct and at the same moment universal.
