Resumo: This research has as main objective to identify and analyze what are the railway workers images and representations that are designed in journalistic and biographical discourses on railway vocational training and other related offices. For this, we investigate what are the situational and historical conditions in which these discourses are produced: its purposes, the social identities of their producers, their target. Furthermore, we also analyzed how each gender, belonging to these discourses, updates, and rebuilds and handles the memory associated to the profession, the crafts and the lives of these professionals. This analysis is based on what is reported on the railway and about what they or their relatives informed about the profession and the railway worker. Because it is a discursive approach, this thesis not only converses with french Discourse Analysis (DA), but with other disciplines, such as sociology, history and Vocational Training. We use theories of AD, especially the Semiolinguistic (não sei se a tradução é esta) Theory, as Patrick Charaudeau conceives it, to show how it can contribute to the understanding of the relationship between language and work, for example, through the study of discursive identities and imaginaries sociodiscursives constructed, promoting the insertion of the worker's discourse in academia. We develop a interpretative-representational research, from the selection of two corpora consist of journalistic discourse (two articles published in the magazine História Viva - Caminhos do trem) and biographical (fourteen narratives reconstructed or biographical accounts published in the catalogs Vale Registrar 2006 - 2007 and 2007-2009).Overall, the analysis indicated that these speeches, although belonging to the same magazine, the two reports show different approaches and points of view. In the first report, the journalist Aryane Cararo presents an idealized vision of the profession and builds a picture that does not match reality, the picture of a adventurous and accomplished worker. In the second, the sociologist, social scientist and educator Batistina Corgozinho presents a historical and more critical overview of what is to really be a railway worker, including the class struggles.Regarding the biographical discourse, the first catalog shows testimonials from active or retired railrway workers and the second shows testimonials from former partners or daughters of deceased railway workers. In them, the witnesses interviewed present a nostalgic vision of the profession or of the worker, either through the use of a direct or indirect speech. In short, the contrastive analysis of these discourses signaled that different treatments are given to memory according to the intentions, the targets, the project of word communicating subjects.
