Resumo: | This study aims at investigating how Nietzsche employs the notions of error and fiction in the so-called middle period writings, in which the philosopher seeks to develop a new image of the free spirit. Nietzsche is particularly concerned with the role error and fictions play in the human cognition. I will be arguing that according to Nietzsche error and fiction are not peculiar to a certain group of people or to a specific style of life, but are rather intrinsically connected to the human condition. Given that, even the free spirit could not dispense with errors and fictions. This description of the human condition is followed by a distinction between bad and good errors and fictions: while the former does contribute only to the values of life-conserving and lifepreserving, the latter is supposed to contribute to values of life-increasing and lifeenhancing. |
