Resumo: | Objective: To determine characteristics of the nutritional profile, the body composition and the eating habits among women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Methods: Data were collected about biological characteristics of tumors. We assessed weight, height, hip and waist circumferences. The calculation of body composition was performed by bioelectrical impedance analysis and thickness skinfold measurements in 32 women. Dietary intake information was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire and 24-hour dietary recall. Results: The mean age of patients was 50.75 ± 14.34 years. 64.52% had waist circumference higher than 80 cm, among these 41.94% exceeding 88 cm. It was found that 93.55% of the patients presented excess body fat with a greater risk of disturbances associated with obesity. It was found that excessive consumption of the foods groups of oils and sugars, respectively, 90.33% and 83.87%. Dietary intake of specific nutrients showed low consume of calcium and vitamins B6, B12 and A. Ductal carcinoma was the predominant histology (68.75%), the majority of patients were diagnosed with type invasive (87.5%). Post-menopausal women had advanced breast cancer stage. Conclusions: A higher prevalence overweight and obesity, with inadequate dietary intake of the patients evaluated demonstrates the need to nutritional management intervention and counseling aimed at improving the prognosis. |
