Resumo: | The present work intends to update the concept of Künstlerroman (artist novel), proposing a definition capable of adapting both the current narratives and those of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In order to do so, based on critical and theoretical works on the subject, we make a historical contextualization of the origin of the Künstlerroman, compiling the terms used by the specialists to refer to the works belonging to the category, and also carrying out a conceptual overview of the term, debating its controversial points, and through the comparative analysis of the works of our literary corpus, proceeding to the identification of its defining marks the structural, formal, and thematic ones. Thus, we find that the works linked to the Künstlerroman tradition form an autonomous literary category unrelated to the genre of the novel and the subgenre of the Bildungsroman (novel of formation) which remains alive and productive in contemporary times, assuming even multi-media forms. We conclude the research proposing the term artist narratives to identify the literary category. |
