Resumo: Research focused on aesthetic-semiotic analysis of the short film Maranhão 66, documentary ordered to the filmmaker Glauber Rocha by José Sarney and sponsored by the Government of Maranhão to present the young governor elected as a kind of local "hero", legitimate representative of the popular will, against a backdrop of economic crisis and social misery of Maranhão. The research aims to analyze the possible occurrence of heroic duality in the character of Jose Sarney in that documentary. The study is based on the ratio of the theoretical assumptions of Aesthetics and Semiotics as possible interpretation of audiovisual content. Therefore, its author-reference as Umberto Eco whose proposal includes a narrative film by matching their structures to the formal written texts. The research will address how the viewer can cooperate in the production of aesthetic senses, from the perception of the inquiry proposed by the author on the forms of representation of power.
