Resumo: Design for social innovation is an approach that deals with initiatives by creative communities that can lead to a discontinuity in existing patterns of production and consumption. In this approach, urban art has been used as a strategy and instrument for the rehabilitation of urban public spaces, specifically those with infrastructure, social and economic problems. However, given the globalization and deterritorialization that are imposed, the dynamics of culture are altered by global processes, making it essential to understand how the creative process of a community can transform its surroundings. Thus, the present research analyzed how participatory design can help in community projects supported by urban art, as a local development strategy. Through the methodological basis structured in a qualitative research, with an exploratory-descriptive bias, the investigative method composed by: Phase 1, Case study, familiarization was applied; Phase 2, Case Study, Discovery; and Phase 3, Case study, data analysis and triangulation. As a conclusion of the research, we present the creation of fourteen (14) recommendations based on Participatory Design, to assist in a community project supported by urban art, as a local development strategy.
