Resumo: This research aims to develop and re-identify symbolic representations of the body of transgender people from a participatory design process with transgender users. Therefore, it seeks to systematize and articulate tools, methods and techniques in a participatory process with trans people from their understanding of the transgender body, as subjects capable of idealizing, expressing and representing themselves. This research is exploratory as to the purposes and a case study as to the procedures. As a tool for bibliographic research, it adopts systematic and unsystematic literature review in order to compose theoretical substrate for research, as well as to identify gaps and tensions on the axes: graphic design, participatory design and transgender users. In the case study, it evidenced the inadequacy between the illustrations of the cisgender serial album in relation to the reality of the therapeutic group of the Hospital Universitário Materno Infantil, in São Luis, Maranhão. During the field investigation, he used methods from participatory ergodesign in order to produce and reidentify symbolic representations during two workshop sessions, held outside the hospital section. The theoretical chapter reflects on the practice of participatory design in contrast to methodological approaches, which restrict the user's performance. With the surveys, there is a great lack of studies in the area as well as a fertile field for research production. As a result, it presents a set of symbolic representations elaborated and validated by the group of transgender users, who offer us solutions and proposals for product development and / or other research.
