Resumo: |
In the last few years, there has been a surge in the number of dissertations on the homeless population in Brazil. Despite their methodological differences, they all have revealed a very similar pattern in the characteristics of the individuals, which in turn has shed light on the vulnerability of certain social groups. This fragility is related to poverty, unemployment, social exclusion as well as the troubled race relations in Brazil, all of which help elucidate how these factors contribute to potentially violent situations. Albeit an overall increase in the standards of life in the country over the last few decades, improvements in socio-economic mobility have been small with a persistent wealth concentration all along. This essay aims to lay open the situations of violence and vulnerability to which the homeless are subjected in the city of Goiânia, in addition to highlighting the social and public policies and their structure in the country and in the aforementioned city, mainly through an analysis of socio-economic data of the target population. |
