Desnutrição materna durante lactação em ratos Wistar: efeitos sobre as fibras elásticas na traquéia dos filhotes

Resumo: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of maternal protein restriction during lactation on the organization and volumetric density of elastic system fibers of the trachea in rats. Two Wistar rats (Rattus novergicus), pregnant from the same male, were separated at delivery into two groups: I) Control group: with free access to standard laboratory diet containing 23% protein; II) Protein restricted group: receiving isoenergetic diet containing 8% protein. At the age of 21 days, the trachea of the offspring was excised and the elastic fibers were evaluated at light microscopy. It was initially performed morphometric qualitative evaluation; quantitative analyses were performed by stereology, using the point-counting method. Quantities were expressed as volumetric densities. There were no differences related to the organization and distribution of elastic fibers between the groups. Regarding quantitative analyses by stereology, the volumetric density of elastic fibers of the trachea was: I) control group: 2.46 ± 0.99%, CI 95%: 2,05 2,87; II) protein restricted group: 3.25 ± 1.13%, CI 95%: 2,78 3,71 (p < 0.05). Data in the present study provides original information regarding the organization and concentration, expressed as volumetric density, of elastic fibers in the trachea of normal and malnourished rat. Our results also show that a protein-restricted diet during lactation promotes a marked increase in the volumetric density of these fibers in Wistar rats
