Resumo: | In 2000, Inmetro, through the Program of Product Analysis, announced, in the media, the results ofanalysis in peanuts and by-products sampies. The tests detected high contamination indices of the product for aflatoxins. This mycotoxin. produced bv fungi that grow in environments with high humidity and temperature, is associated to severa! negative effects to human health that vary regarding the frequency and the dose of the ingestion of contaminated food. Among these effects, the liver cancer is the most important. The announcement of the resuits provoked strong impact on the segment that must be mobilized to survive. Some actions as the creation of a seif-regulation program ofthe sector, the Pro-Amendoim, based on adoption ofthe principies ofthe Hazard Analysis and Critica! Control Point (HACCP) and the support from the government through the release of the HACCP Project, that stimulates and favors the implantation of the system in companies of different sizes, were fundamental for the retaking of the sector s growth that now intends to obtain the recognition of this effort through the use of the Conformity Assessment, applied to the final product and to the management system, as competitive advantage and strategy to conquer the consumer confidence |
