Resumo: The physical inativity is considered by the Health World Organization as one of the main factory of risk for the development of chronical diseases not transmissible. In Brazil little is known about the habits of physical activities of the population, not existing up to the moment a research of domiciliate base and of nacional wide ranging that has investigated the details the physical activities in its totality. This way, the objective of this work was to know the pattern of adult population physical activity (≥ 20 years old) of the district of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. The physical activities information were obtained through one recall of 24 hours carried out in a typical day. To make easier this study and analysis, the activities were classified in 12 variants: 1) dressing-up; 2) watching TV; 3) using the computer; 4) occupacional activities; 5) displacement; 6) sleeping; 7) studying; 8) physical exercise; 9) personal hygiene; 10) leisure; 11) meal ande 12) others activities. To this form, were attributed values of METs and classified in different intensities, light < 3 METs; moderate: 3-6 METs and heavy > 6 METs. Thus, it was possible to identify the period of permanence in the different levels of activities and to verify if the same fulfilled the minimum of activities actually proposed (30 minutes of physical activity in moderate intensity). The results showed that 59,5% of the people, they exercised during 30 minutes of physical activity, being the men more active than women (63,8% and 55,9%, respectivelly). The men and the women more active were met at the age of 30-40 years old (73,5% and 65,6%, respectivelly). The data showed that the majority of the adults living in Niterói, performed enough physical activities for the obtantion of health benefits. However, they point out the need of daily additional activities more active in the free time and the reduction of spent time in sedentary activities, taking into consideration the evidences in the literature of the major benefits to the health when a minimum of physical activity nowadays recommended is exceeded.
