Resumo: | The Internet importance for society is indisputable. Nowadays it is fundamental in education and social inclusion, the basis for a country's social and economic development. In Brazil, the broadband, essential to access the Internet is lagging behind when compared to the developed countries for as much as five years. The broadband main market evaluation indicators are the access speed, the price, and the service reach. This assignment evaluates the broadband brazilian market and predicts a probable scenario for 2015, using the following sector evaluation methods: Porter's Five Competitive Forces model, SWOT matrix, and field research applied to telecommunications professionals. The results obtained in the proposal application show that Brazil has some bottlenecks preventing the broadband growth: high taxes, low competition in regions of low financial return, and insufficient network infrastructure to serve the high demand for high speed. The results show that the sector will grow, but below its potential. Following evaluation of the sector and the survey of future perspectives, strategies are proposed to minimize the gap between the domestic broadband and those of the developed countries. |
