Resumo: | In this study we survey the mechanisms of expression of the concession in some of the most representative 20th century Brazilian grammar handbooks and hold a comparison between different linguistic forms classified as concessive in such works. We use as a criterion for selecting the grammar handbooks its relevance as text reference in the Portuguese educational system in the medium and fundamental levels. The extent that the proposal to examine author reference within a certain period of grammatical tradition is fundamentally based on the theory of Linguistic Historiography, specifically the works of Konrad Koerner, among other linguistic histiographers, as a way out of the modern historiografic methodology and its concepts. That way, we hold a differentiation between the concepts of history, historiography and meta-historiography, fundamental to the development of this work, as these have a very close relationship between them that can give rise to inappropriate comparisons. In addition, the current historiografic that we are focusing on (cf. KOERNER, 1978) establishes, as one of the criteria for the process of analysis of such mechanisms, a detachment of the necessary scientific methodology used in the texts of the traditional grammar. Finally, we verify to what extent the syntactic metalanguage of TG found in such works to describe the mechanisms of expression of the concession following the adequation principle, one of the three that guide this tide of Linguistic Historiography namely the contextualization, the immanence and adequation (KOERNER, 1996). |
