In the realm of Twentieth Century Portuguese Poetry, Jorge de Sena s work is in privileged position. This paper aims to analyze his lyrical writing under an iconic perspective which highlights the traveller s point of view who, in the length of his journeys, notices the landscape in a subjective way, associating visibility and memories. Considering eye-witnessing as basic premise for the Senian writing, we shall examine his sightseeing experimentation, under a cultural view, as a reflection on the human action in the space, beyond one s merely geographical pilgrimage. In order to achieve this goal, it has been made a collection of his poetical work so as to put in evidence poems which portray trips and reflections about the human condition, articulating the critical-theoretical basis inherent to the questionings about sightseeing, subjectivity and viewing.
