This work is a reading of the novel Chronics from the murdered house, by Lúcio Cardoso, as well as four tales by Clarice Lispector: "The Body", "He drank me", "Praça Mauá" (from The via-crucis of the body), "The Fifth History" (from The foreign legion), and finally another novel from the later author, Passion according to G.H., all investigated as of figuration of the ways by which the category of grotesque is present on the literary treatment of the issues, characters and narrative proceedings of these works. Other concepts that contribute to articulate the theoretical discussion are found in melancholy, the uncanny, and the abject, a group of notions originated in Philosophy and Psychoanalytic Theory.
