Resumo: Pressure Ulcers (PU) are considered a preventable public health problem, but very frequent in the Centers for Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in serious customers. It is important to recognize the UPP as a problem can affect the quality of health care services, requiring the whole multidisciplinary team involved and encouraged to know and understand their causes and risk factors in order that effective action to prevent schedule and interdisciplinary treatment. The present study arose from a program of the University Extension Committee on Prevention, Evaluation and Treatment of Wounds (CPATF) among clients admitted to an ICU of a University Hospital of the Federal State of Rio de Janeiro, located in Niterói. The object of study is the incidence of UPP on clients in the ICU in the years 2010 and 2011 as an experience report of a university extension program. The study had the questions: What is the incidence of UPP in an Intensive Care Unit from January 2010 to December 2011? What factors may be involved in the increase or reduction of UPP in a recent comparative between two years? Thus, the development of this study, we defined the following objectives: To comparatively analyze the incidence of pressure ulcers in an intensive care unit from January 2010 to December 2011 as an experience in extension program "Prevention Management Process, Evaluation and Treatment of Wounds HUAP / UFF"; Discuss the factors involved in the increase or reduction of UPP and joint actions of nursing and nutrition in the prevention of pressure ulcers in long term. A previous analysis of data collected from January 2010 to August 2011 shows a considerable increase in the incidence of UPP, which may be related to problems in quantitative professionals. Although the average annual increase of incidence of UPP in 2011 compared to last year, the percentage of new cases is still found to be significantly below the results found in the literature, this could be related to prevention strategies and protocols for routine developed by CPATF. It is suggested greater appreciation and practice of joint strategies among the teams, as the passage of multidisciplinary rounds, return the application of the Braden Scale in the ICU under study, as well as better personnel management in future contractual substitutions
