Resumo: Characterizes and analyzes the educational establishment population with information from a data source and historical document contained in the two books and records Alzira Bley Educational Establishment their photographic archives. The information on 3.432 people make up a database that was built during this research and the photographs were scanned. The Educational Establishment is located on BR 101 - km 9, Itanhenga - Cariacica / ES. The study conducted semi-structured interviews with employees and former inmates of the Educational Establishment that gaves life and movement to the analysis of charts and tables drawn from the database. For the theoretical background of the study population are employed concepts relevant to the demographic transition and epidemiological transition, to forced migration, the migratory networks and to population characteristics (sex, age, color, origin and its variations) who provided the information for the analysis of the state of the population at different historical moments. The Historical Geography complete the theoretical investigation of this, as many geographical features require historical studies for a satisfactory explanation of how they arrived at what they are today. The photographs, statements, books and records of the Esducational Establishment enabled the characterization of the population that has passed and/or lived in Alzira Educandário Bley during the period of compulsory admissions in Pedro Fontes Colony Hospital (1937-1979). In conducting this research we came to the following conclusions: a) each generation is a victim of the scientific knowledge of his time, b) the demographic transition was in its first phase in the mid-twentieth Century, and the high levels of mortality and fertility were observed in the study population, c) the epidemiological transition, also ongoing in the Holy Spirit was characterized by high incidence of infectious diseases, among which leprosy was still an incurable disease, d ) the isolation of leprosy patients in hospitals colonies, as well as their children were preventoriums movements forced migration e) compulsory hospitalization of leprosy patients in hospitals colonies triggered a migration network of family and other relatives and friends who might be with the disease.
