Resumo: This thesis aimed to investigate how, in the context of actions and hygienists interactions in areas of practice, including the Ministry of Education and Public Health, congresses and medical journals, the role of education, the school and the teacher was thought, with specific reference to the medical workforce and professor Carlos Accioly de Sá, between 1920 and 1945. The circulation of national and international ideas about school hygiene in the early decades of the twentieth century it was also investigated in an attempt to analyze the affiliations of hygienists ideas on education and health. Common issues and disagreements about the representations of school hygiene, health and education, were investigated building on the circulation of Brazilian modernity idea, immersed in the so-called national question. For this research, it used the concept of intellectual, based on Sirinelli. Dialogue with sources occurred also through the concepts of culture (Sirinelli), interpretive communities, representations, and circulation (Chartier). Therefore, we articulate the political culture of the period to the texts produced by Sá, in dialogue with their peers and with the actions of the government and professional associations that he attended. We assume that, far from having a single project of school hygiene, Sa texts revealed in the appropriations of other ideas, thus highlighting of his generation. In the analysis of his writings, it was noticed an appropriation of American ideas of public health, which pointed out, already in the 1920s, to a greater emphasis on health education, to the detriment of hygienic inspection on the way to transform habits, prevent disease and promote health.
