Resumo: |
Urban expansion is a phenomenon that has reached large cities and caused a strong impact on their infrastructures, especially on the road systems. This process is followed by a progressive increase in vehicle fleet, a reality that is decisive in triggering a series of traffic conflicts, compromising flow of traffic and safety. The situation is aggravated by the implementation of trip generating hubs (Polos Geradores de Viagens, or PGVs, in portuguese), undertakings that increase traffic volume and may reduce levels of service and road safety. In such a context, this study presents a contribution to the existing methodologies for analyzing the impacts of PGVs, by incorporating steps that allow qualitative and quantitative approaches related to road safety performance. First, we identified a general structure shared by the main methodologies for evaluating the impact of PGVs, examining how aspects of road safety were considered. Then, we proposed an improvement to this structure, with the inclusion of activities capable of systematizing the approach to road safety, making the process of analyzing PGVs more extensive and equipped with complementary resources for decision making. The prospective nature of this work contributed to the definition of research efforts to enhance existing processes of road safety analysis, focusing on their integration with the “traditional” process, and proposing complementary activities to these processes. |
