The Ceará, face to its attractives natural, has a comparable tourist potentiality to the great international polar regions and comes, from a dynamic way, transforming the tourism into an important activity for the generation of job and income. The central objective of this study is to analyze the evolution of the tourism in the State of the Ceará in the period of 1996 to 2005. About the Methodology, the study in guideline technical appraised what the tourism is, presenting its segmentation and as how is this locating in the economic environment, as much in the national plan as international. To base the tourism significance as a economic phenomenon an analysis of the account satellite of the tourism and the multiplying effect of the activity was included, that are modern tools and of valuable expression for the sectorial analysis. Keeping the focus of the work, a descriptive analysis of the observed tourist pointers in the Ceará was inserted, whose given they had served of base for the formularization of a econometrical model of attraction of demand and one another statistical model to investigate the real participation of the GIP generated for the tourist sector in the Ceará in relation to the total GIP of the State. In this context the tourist demand of the Ceará in its flows was considered excellent internal and external (changeable dependent) and as changeable that explains the tourist demand of Brazil, the per capita GIP of the country, the exchange tax, it offers the hotels of the State and the effect of the sazonalidade of the tourism. The gotten results had been tested econometricamente and all the joined parameters had signaled trend robustness what it validates the consistency of the formulated models. Conclusive, the tourism is an activity of excellent significance for the economy of the State of the Ceará, possess potentiality for expansion and comes denoting one sped up growth trend what increase of the participation of the tourist GIP in the formation of the Gross domestic product of the State is disclosed, which varies of 6,05% 13.56% in the period in analyzes.
