The goal of this work is to analyze the effect of the Aprender para Valer award on the educational expectations of students from Ceará; more specifically, it analyzes the effect of a student having the right to receive the award in a given year on his expectations in the following year of attending higher education. The government of the state of Ceará instituted this award in 2009, which aims to give a notebook to the high school students that achieve adequate performance in the evaluation of Permanent System for the Evaluation of Basic Education in Ceará (SPAECE). The SPAECE databases used comprise the years 2013 and 2014, and provide information on students’ proficiency in Mathematics and Portuguese, as well as students’ demographic and socioeconomic attributes, besides their perception of their teachers and school. The methodology chosen was discontinuity regression with multiple scores, taking into account the eligibility criteria of the Aprender para Valer award. The results showed that students who were entitled to receive the award had risen their expectations of going to college. |
