Resumo: This document discusses the process of developing and presenting the Care Pathway for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families in Sobral, Ceará, with the aim of addressing the ethical, social, clinical, and economic dimensions related to autism, starting from the formation of a Municipal Intersectoral Technical Group. The objective was to elaboration the process of establishing a municipal public policy for autism and to reflect on its scope and effectiveness. The method used was a qualitative approach involving documentary analysis of laws, ordinances, and public documents related to the topic. For data collection, participant observation and the construction of a field diary were utilized. The study identified various obstacles to the effective implementation of a public policy for autism, such as increased demand, fragmentation of care, lack of network coordination, limited financial resources, the need for continuous professional training, and the influence of market interests in the field of neurodiversities. It is concluded that, despite the progress achieved, there are still challenges to be overcome to ensure comprehensive and humane care for people with ASD and their families in Sobral. It is necessary to adopt a psychosocial, inclusive, ethical, and emancipatory perspective in care, which recognizes and respects the diversity of bodies and autistic experiences.
