This dissertation discusses the potentialities and limits for the reuse of urban voids in the traditional historical centers of Brazilian cities in the context of rehabilitation projects that include proposals for social interest housing. The problem posed refers to the identification and management of such urban voids, regardless of whether they are unused or under-used vacant lotes or buildings, in a specific location and which are experiencing realestate valuation as a result of their architectural-urbanistic intervention projects. Incorporated in this approach is a discussion of the offer of social interest housing in those centers as part of public housing policy in Brazil. The dissertation uses the case of the historical center of the city of Maceió, capital of the state of Alagoas, as the base for an empirical discussion of the potentialities and limits existing in that area, should a housing rehabilitation project be implemented in the context of the architectural-urbanistic intervention projects currently underway.
