Resumo: The objective was to use a microbial additive containing Lactobacillus buchneri to verify the quality of the cassava leaves silage. The forage was submitted to the treatments with addition and absence of microbial inoculant containing Lactobacillus buchneri strain NCIMB 40788 the dosage recommended by the manufacturer, observing data corresponding to four replicates, analyzed in six periods of 0, 1, 7, 14, 28, and 56 days of opening the silos. Addition of the inoculant caused changes throughout the fermentation process. Significant decreases were observed for neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and ethereal extract, and additions to dry matter, crude protein, ammoniacal nitrogen, minerals, dry matter digestibility and soluble carbohydrates. Changes were observed in populations of lactic acid bacteria and enterobacteria. No changes were observed in the pH values. The inoculation influenced the production of the volatile fatty acids, but at the end of the process the silage without inoculant presented a lower concentration of acetic acid and higher of lactic acid, reducing to hydrocyanic acid from the second day of opening of the silos. The microbial additive was not efficient on the quality of the silage, but it is at the nutritional level limit to be supplied to the animal.
