This thesis investigates the changes and continuities in the representation of masculinity on movies about contemporary Northeast Brazil by analyzing two recent productions from the state of Pernambuco, Permanência (2014) and Boi Neon (2015), considering the historical Brazilian cinematography produced about this region in the two previous decades, which has diffused certain characteristics, habits and behaviors as authentically regional and associated to determined gender stereotypes. Thus, the sequences of these movies are described and analyzed as a way to interpret the aestethical choices of their directors and the performance of actors on the construction of masculinity on male characters relating them to the sociocultural universe and the current gender roles.
